CARE OF THE ORPHANS.

HOME AT PAPATOETOE. | g l WORK OF THE PAST YEAR. The sixtieth annual meeting of the Auckland Orphan Home Trust Beard was held yesterday afternoon, Sir F. W. Lang, M.P., presiding. Th« annual report, details of which w ere published yesterday, was presented by the Rev. K W. Gillam. Mention was made of several changes in the staff during the year. The matron, Miss Wignall had had to relinquish her work owing to ill-health, and * the board had been very fortunate in securing the services of Miss Ada Hooker as her successor. The Rev. W. E. Gillam, who had been a member of the Board for 20 years, took up the position of secretary in November. The board recorded its thanks to the many who had sent useful guts to the home, particularly to the freemasons of Auckland, and midents of the district. Sir Frederick Lang complimented the board on the work performed at the home, speaking particularly of the growth of ite activities. A very imprtant step had been taken when the home had been moved from Pamell to Papatoetoe, and it had been amply proven a step in the right direction. The claims of the children on the community, he said, were of paramount importance, and the maintenance of the home called for the fullest support of the- diocese. . The balance-sheet shewed an expenditure- during the year of £3007. with a credit balance of £175 in the working account. The sum of £543 was received in subscriptions. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, Mr. U. J. Tunks referred to the long period of successful work accomplished at the ■ home, which would celebrate its sixtieth anniversary this year. He referred particularly to the forthcoming'campaign to raise £15,000 for the erection of extra accommodation. For lack of this, the board was con-! stantly refusing children who ought to be admitted to the home, and it confidently looked to the diocese to remedy this state of things, and to provide funds not only for extra accommodation, but also for the maintenance of the children. Feeling reference was made by Mr. Tunks to the loss the board had sustained in the death . of Mrs. C. Nelson, for many years one of the most devoted workers for the home. Messrs. C. J. Tunks, C. Hay, E. Yates, F. C. S. Lawson, A. G. Stanley and Dr. Roberton were re-elected members of the ooard.
