NEGOTIATIONS BROKEN OFF.
Renter. BRUSSELS, May 27. The Foreign Minister, explaining the rupture of negotiations with Holland recarding the custody of the River Scheldt in «7ho event of war, stated that since 1839 Holland had demanded the eoveignty of the Wielengen Channel, commanding the approaches to Zeebrugge. which was the maritime base of Belgium s defence.
