WAR BIIL FBOM CANADA.
DEMAND FOR £370,000,000.
Australian »nd N.Z. C»ble Association. (Reed. 5.5 p.m.) OTTAWA. May 27. It is understood that Canada has formulated a war damages bill totalling £570,000,000, the items includin e cost of the war and demobilisation, separation allowances, losses caused by the fire at Halifax, cost of the army of occupation, and destruction through illegal warfare. This bill will be handjd to the forthcoming conference of Empire representations and the allied conference at Spa.
CLAIM MADE BY FRANCE.
INCIDENT AT CONFERENCE. United Service. ■ PARIS. May 27. M. Clemenceau, ex-Premier of France, in the course of an interview to-day, disclosed that the Peace Conference closely debated the German indemnity question for three weeks. The British and American delegate* contended throughout for the payment of a lump sum, of which France should" receive £3,000,000,000. The French delegates demanded more, and resisted a hasty decision, hence the appointment of the Reparations Commission.
