ENGLISH PIERROTS. A new programme will be presented at the Town Hall this evening by the popular English Pierrots. The performance last evening attracted another large and enthusiastic audience, the work of the ladies' orchestra being very warmly applauded. J. AND N. TilT'S SEASON. Messrs. J. and N. Tait's Comedy Company will open a season at His Majesty's Theatre on Monday evening, Juno 7. _ The season will mark the first appearance in New Zealand of Mies Ernita Laseelles, a young English actress, who has already achieved great success in London and New York, where she was appearing when engaged for a tour of Australia and New Zealand, ihe management also secured in America Mr. Herbert Hanson, a young' English actor, who will be leading man in the new company. " Daddies " is the title of the piece selected .lor iho opening of the tour. It is said to be ii play which should appeal to both young and old. Besides Miss E:mita Lißcellos and Mr. Herbert Ranson. the- cast will include Miss Georgie Harvey, Mi3S Jeari Williams, Miss Shirley Maxwell, little Elva Powio, Mr. George Bryant, Mr. M. HilUm, and Mr. Harold Moran. The box plans will be opened at Wildman and Arey's on Friday ncrt. OPERA HOUSE. The current programme at the Opera House has proved much to the liking of vaudeville patrons, judging from the large audiences present at each performance. Abdy's per- . forming animals will make final appearance to-day. GERTRUDE JOHNSON CONCERTS. The experience of hearing two concert artists who are at tho best part of their careers, musically, is to be afforded on Tuesday next, when there will appear at the Town Hall Miss Gertrude Johnson, the brilliant young Australian operatic soprano, and Mr. Horace Hunt, the Auckland musician and pianist. Mr. Victor Beck has arranged to direct a tour of New Zealand by Miss Johnson and Mr. Hunt, under the management of Mr. G. 8. Garland, of Auckland. During the local season Miss Johnson will iiing excerpts from various operas as well as many numbers of the so-called popular type. Her last appearances in the Dominion were mado as one of the leading members of the J. C. Williamson Grand Opera Company early this year. She scored a memorable success in 'Lucia di Lammermoor" and "Rigoletto." In Mr. Horace Hunt the promoters of the tour have secured an artist whose reputation was made already before he left for Europe in 1913. During his internment in a German camp as a prisoner of war. and after that, while he resided in London and other parts of Britain, he had innumerable fine opportunities of perfecting himeelf in his art, and of mixing with and studyinK the methods of some of the greatest musicians of tho older world. His appearance on the same platform with Miss Johneon in the capacity of solo pianist should ensure the success of tho coming concerts from the artistic poin* of view. Also contributing to tho programme will be Mr. Charles Russell, one of Australia's leading flautists The box plan for the concert* is now open at Wildman and Arey's. ORGAN RECITAL. The programme for the organ recital in the Town Hall to-night has boen selected from organ works by Widor, Dudley Buck and WolstonholJio. The city organist will .also play Kevin's popular "Day in Venice. Vocal duets will be sung by Miss Lillian Braithwaite and Mr. Sydney Butler. "MERCHANT OF VENICE." A performance of "Th« Merchant of Venico" will be given by the Auckland Shakespeare Students' Society at th© Y.W.C.A. Hall, Upper Queen Street, next Saturday evening, KING'S BIRTHDAY GATHERING. On Taursday and Saturday next, the fortieth anniversary of the Auckland Band of Hope Union will be celebrated in the Town Hall with an action-sons entertainment by 500 performers trained by Mr. L. E. Falkner. Items will bo supplied by the New Zealand Quartette and the Temperance Guards Band. An instrumental sextette by violin, cello, harp and piano will be provided. Mr. S. Adams and Miss Lillian Stokeo will give humorous monologues. The box plan is at Messrs. Wildman and Arey's. Tho children and adults' fancy dress ball in aid of a residential nursery for the children of sick mothers, which was postponed, will take place in the Town Hall on Thursday, June 24. A Tom Moore anniversary concert in aid of St. Michael's Schools, Remuera, will be held in the Town Hall concert chamber on Wednesday next. An attractive programme has been arranged. LYRIC THEATRE. Sessile Hayakawa. the noted Japanese actor, appears at the Lyric Theatre to-day, in a thrilling version of the famous novel by E. Phillips Oppenheim, " The Illustrious Prince." It is a film of mystery and intrigue, and of love and loyalty in the smart sot of London's society. There are many stirring scenes, including a murderer's escapo from a fast-moving cab in a dense Louden fog. The supporting programmo includes: ''How Dry I Am," a bright comedy. "Haunts of a Thunder-cloud." scenic study; the latest Topical Budget, and the second series of the Maori welcome to the Prince at Rotorua. PRINCESS THEvrfiE. A fine double programme will be presented at the Princess Theatre to-day. Flaneur and his clever performing dogs will be seen for the tret time in Auckland in an artistic and original act, entitled, "A Day in Dogtown." The principal actors in this piece are Mop and Prince, two highlytrained dogs, who, dressed in specially constructed costumes and wooden clogs, perform many astonishing feats. The pictorial portion of the programme includes " Other Men'* Wives.' the central figure in which it Cynthia Brock, a beautiful and accomplished young society woman,' whose part is ably taken by Dorothy Dalton.
