The provision in the Republican peace resolution requesting Mr. Wilson to open negotiations direct with Germany for a separate peace treaty has been i:truck out at the instance of Mr. Lodge. The debate on the peace resolution is continuing. Mr. C. S. Thomas, a Democrat, in a speech in th* Senate, declared that the Democratic Party would face defeat and dissolution if it adopted Mr. Wilson's stand in the ratification of the treaty unchanged. •* -I Mr. 0. M. Hitchcock ridiculed the Republican's attempt to secure the adoption of the Knox resolution, and said the Republicans were butting against a wall, since they knew the resolution would be immediately vetoed.
