MORRINSVILLE CUP COMPETITION.

The Morrinimlle Rugby Union's Cup competition was opened on Saturday in fin© weather. Kereone beat City by 12 points to 3; Mangateparu and Waitoa drew, each side scoring a penalty goal; Terriers beat Tauhei by 26 points to 0. The Morriasville Rugby Union met on Saturday evening Mr. Wenzl Scholium was elected patron of the union; Mr. R. J. Hynes wag elected a vice-president; Messrs. L. S. Ryan, R. N. Morpeth, and S. J. Bain * Selection Committee; Me«:is. W- C. CargiU, F C. Warner, and D. R. F. Campbell an Appeal Committee. It was decided to play a representative match with Hamilton on June & lor toe Peace Cup. The president, Mr. Chapman, reported that as the result of efforts made Dy the Morrinsville Union the South Auckland Rugby Union had been formed, and a committee had been appointed. Too headquarters were at Hamilton, and Mr. C- McDavitt, of Morrinsville, was secretary. Stops were being taken to define the boundaries and to promote inter-union matches.

NEW ZEALAND COUNCIL.

The New Zealand Council of the Rugby Football League met last evening, Mr. D. W. McLean presiding.

The resolutions passed at the conference held at Sydney on July 30, between New South Wales. Queensland and New Zealand representatives were confirmed.

T. Haddon and G. Cargill were granted open transfers to play in Australia.

The Wellington League wrote asking for support, as the League game was not re--1 ceiving recognition in Wellington and the league suffered finrncial hardship. The council granted a loan of £50 to meet current expenses and asked '.he league to supply a, balance-sheet and to account for recent expenditures. The Wellington League was also granted £56 16s to meet the expenses of sending a team to papier to play Hawke's Bay on May 29, wish a view to selecting representatives to play the English team Messrs. W. Taylor and G. D. Webb, of Hawke's Bay, were appointed to represent the council. The Hawke's Bay League was granted £30 to promote the game in public schools. It was decided to instruct the Canterbury League to secure Lancaster Park for the English fixture. Messrs. C. B. Hardingham and B. J. Stirling, of Canterbury, were elected life members of the New Zealand League. Appreciation wag expressed at the satisfactory financial position of the Auckland League, which showed * credit balance of £600. In regard to the itinerary of the English team, the following matches were decided upon, the dates to be fixed later:'—Test matches: At Cruistchurch, Wellington and Auckland.- Local matches: English team v. Weet Coast districts at Greymouth, v. North Island at Napier, v. Wn'kalr. at Hamilton, and v. Auckland at Auckland.
