BAD LANGUAGE ON FERRY.

ONE MONTH'S, IMPRISONMENT.

The use of obscene language on a ferry steamer during a trip to Birkenhead on Friday, was the basis of a charge against James McGee, aj;ed 54, heard in the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. J. E. Wilson, S.M. Accused was sentenced to one month's hard labour the magistrate stuting that he would not allow the option of a fine in cases of such misbehaviour.

ASSAULT CHARGE DISMISSED. George Walter Thomas Daniels, aged 2$ (Mr. A. M. Mowlem). was charged with assaulting two men and a woman in Grey Street on April 23, tho police stating that as wesult one man was in the hospital Buffering from injuries inflicted. Dr. J. Reed, who had been consulted by Daniels for headaches on March 16, said he considered accused wag a neurasthenic, his condition being brought about by over four years of war service. Certificates were also put in from Drs. Coldicutt and Murray regarding accused's physical condition. The magistrate in dismissing the charge, said he was satisfied that accused, if responsible, was not the sort of person to commit an assault of this character. It wa* accused's misfortune to be in a condition of health needing medical treatment, and hi hoped he would make some recompense to the persons assaulted.
