FRENCHMEN ANNIHILATED. LURED FROM A STRONGHOLD. SAFE CONDUCT VIOLATED.' Bj TelemDb--Pre»s Association-Copyright " ■■' ' l' (Received 12.50 a.m.) A. and N.Z. LONDON, April 30. The correspondent of the Daily Express at Beirut states that Americans from Urfa, in north-eastern Syria, give horrible details of a massacre of 400 Frenchmen near Urfa, where they were defending themselves in an impregnable position for many weeks. They left the position in consequence of being offered a safe conduct by the Turkish Government. Three thousand Khurds and Turks attacked the French column in a ravine, and killed all except a few who escaped. There were shocking scenes at Urfa later, Khurdish and Turkish women shrieked war cries behind a procession of soldiers carrying the heads of the murdered and mutilated Frenchmen on poles.
