EFFECTS OF SHELL SHOCK.
BRITISH INVESTIGATION. A. and N.Z. LONDON. April 30. Tbe House of Lorda approved the appointment of a departmental committee to investigate the effects of different kinds of shell-shock, the inquiry to include cases where sentence of death was inflicted on charges of cowardice. Speakers urged exnecessity of placing those suffering from shell-shock under medical observation for a sufficient time to ascertain whether ther mental balance was affected. Lord Peel- Parliamentary Secretary to t|, L .' \V;ir Office, replying, said that the I War Office was glad to ac«ept a mixed committee to inquire into the matter. ExI treme care had always to be exercised at I Court-martials where shell-shock cases were involved. A medical officer was always included if there was any suggestion of mental or nervous disorder, but many nervous and mental conditions encountered were entirely new to medical officers.
