NO SUBURBAN TRAINS.
STAFFS ALL ON STRIKE.*
NAVAL XI EN JBROUGHT BACK.
No trains were despatched from Auckland yesterday, and the only train to arrive was that which brought the pettyofficers and men of the Renown from Kotorua. This train reached Auckland shortly after 6.30 a.m. The engine was taken to the sheds and the driver and fireman, having completed the duty for which an assurance had been given by their union, then leased work ana became participants in the strike.
The traffic management had intended to run two suburban trains in the morning. but ( as the strike by the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants meant that there would be no trainmen or signalmen the idea had to be abandoned. Efforts are being made to get superannuated servants to come to the assistance of the Department, and it- is hoped, if the response is satisfactory, to despatch a train to Papakura and one to Swao.no after five o'clock this evening.
