A statement regarding the following loans was presented __ by the Mayor:— Streets improvements, £165,000; crematorium, £4000; Grey Lynn streets improvements, £90,000; tramways, £1,250,000 He stated that the amount of the debentures remaining unissued in each case respectively were : —£135,000, £4000, £65,000. and £22,800. It was necessary at once to issue £50,000 of the streets improvement loan and to clear the balance of the tramways debentures. The demand for debentures had slackened somewhat, and no opportunity should be lost of satisfactorily placing these two amounts. The city engineer, Mr. W. E. Bush, reported that, if the Cox's Creek Reserve was ever to be made suitable for its purpose as a recreation ground, extensive tipping operations must take place, or it must be filled up by dredging. He recommended that as a start the area, should be set apart as a public tip. To enable this to be done it would be necessary to gradually make provision for the storm water which finds its only outlet into the creek by the construction of a culvert or open water course. The report was referred to the Works Committee. ! The ternata County Council wrote I intimating that a meeting of the bodies I contributing to the cost of the erection of the new Whau Bridge would be held at its office on May 14. The council was asked to appoint two delegates to attend with power to act. Details of I the proposed erection of the bridge and | the allocation of cost, etc., would be discussed. The matter was left in the hands of the Public Services Committee, the Mayor stating that there was a statutory obligation on the council to contribute.
