Virtue, -who has been manager of the Akaroa branch of the Bank of New Zealand for over 20 years, is retiring from the service at the end of the month Mr. Fran* H. Tuckey, of the Treasury staff, retired last -week on superannuation" He became a cadet in the Treasury 42 years ago, and for 30 years of that period was in the cashier's offic°. Mr. John Fuller, who has been suffering from a serious illness at his residence at Pevonport, underwent an operation at the end of last week. His condition gave rise to considerable anxiety far a time, and his daughter, Mrs. Boddsm. of Wellington, was sent for. Last evening Mr. Fuller was reported to be making favonr" able progress, and hopes were entertained that the grave stage of his illness bid passed, and that he would make a good recovery.
