NO TRAINS TO START TO-DAY
EMERGENCY PLANS IN VIEW
The members .of the locomotive section of the New Zealand railway service in the North Island went on strike at midnight. Tho announcement was made by the executive of the Locomotive Enginedrivers, Firemen and Cleaners' Association in Wellington yesterday, and the members of that organisation employed at the Auckland station and yards ceased work at twelve o'clock midnight. It was stated that trains running at midnight would be taken to their destinations. The strike is confined to the locomotive seeiton, and the men in that section in tie South Island have been asked by the executive of the association to continue work for the present. The Assistant General Manager of Railways stated in Wellington yesterday that an effort will be made, to run suburban services there, but he was unable to give any definite details of the intentions of the Government. A similar effort is being made in Auckland. The Prime Minister, who left Auckland for Rotorua yesterday in connection v-ith. the visit of the Prince of Wales to the thermal district, is in communication with the representatives of the men.
