JOINERY MILL BURNED.

LARGE FIRE AT REMJJERA. ''--. DESTRUCTION OF BULLMNeS. STACKS OF TIMBER CONSUMED The factory buildings, and a large quantity of timber on the premises of Mr. C. H. Frankham, timber and joinery merchant, in Mahum Road, Newmarket, were destroyed by fire early this morning. The outbreak was observed by a resident in the vicinity and the alarm was given by telephone to the city fire station. When the first brigade detach ment arrived, the fire was burning fiercely, and" efforts to check it were of little avail. The principal building was a two-storeyed structure, mainly of wood, containing an extensive plant of wood-working machinery and large stocks of seasoned timber. This structure was wholly consumed by the fire. The flames spread also to stacks of timber in the yard, causing further extensive damage. An hour after the outbreak was discovered the only structure still standing was the engineroom, built of corrugated iron, and the fire was burning strongly in this building. An electric power service was recently installed in the works, and the fire having destroyed the insulation of the service cables, great flashes of light were repeatedly reflected in the sky as the nased wires came into contact with portions of the iron structure. The City, Remuera, and Newmarket brigades furnished detachments to deal with the fire.
