POSITION IN CHKISTCHURCH. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. " 1 have not a single packet, of cigarettes or an ounce of cigarette tobacco in my shop. I have not a single wax vesta and am reduced to a few packets of Japanese safety matches. 1 can see nothing else for it but to close up my shop unless relief comes soon." In these words a city tobacconist summed up to a reporter to-day a position as far as stock is concerned that is almost general. Inquiries made go to shbw that if the usual business depended on the cigarette trade alone many would undoubtedly have had to put the shutters up. The main sale of cigarettes is confined to a few lines. "The position to-day." said the representative of a large wholesale house, "is that we have not a single cigarette in the warehouse. We have never previously been in this position,"
