Jdassey, made the following statement to-day as to th? progress on dwellings in course of erection or being arranged for throughout the Dominion under the housing scheme. Wellington contracts have been let for the erection of 113 dwellings in Wellington and Petone. Two dwellings are almost completed. In Auckland a contract has been let for the erection of seventeen dwellings at Ellerslie. The foundation and walls up to the base have been completed for 12 dwellings. The contractor is now ready -to push ahead with the walls, and should make quick progress from now onward. In New Plymouth a contract has been let for the erection of six dwellings. The builder commenced upon the work last week. Arrangements are being made foj the erection of a further thirteen dwellinga in this town.

It is hoped to receive tenders for tie • erection of a number of dwellings at Palmerston North during the next few days. At Masterton satisfactory progress is being made with the erection of eight dwellings. Arrangements are being mads to proceed with tie erection of a farther number.

At Christchurch a contract has been let for the. erection of four dwellings, and tenders are being called for the erection of an additional 75.

An Oamara contract has been let for tins erection of eight dwellings. Four dwellings are in course of erection at Nelson.

The above represents 183 dwellings now in course of erection and 122 for which arrangements are proceeding, a total of 305. It is hoped to make arrangements for the erection of dwellings in Hamilton, Morrinsville, Te Awamutu, Te Kuiti, Tat hape, and Rotorua shortly. Mr. Moston, deputy housing superintendent, and the architect, Mr. Graham, will shortly visit Auckland for the pup. pose, if possible, of arranging for the erection of a large number of houses, as is being done in Wellington and Christchurch.

Mr. Massev adds : —"A census is bang taken of the house-building in operation in New Zealand at the present fame, but I am strongly of the opinion that mora building is now going on in the Dominion than it any time in ite history."
