MINERS' TACTICS.

THE CONSUMER PAYS.

LONDON, March IS. The Labour correspondent of the Times, quoting the recent candid admissions of Mr. Frank. Hodges, secretary of the Miners' Federation, states that the miners are now deliberately engaged in an attempt to bankrupt the coal industry by successive wage demands, in order to make private ownership unprofitable. The latest demand adds £40,000,000 to the working cost, and means the addition of 4s per ton in the price of coal. fcMr. J. R. Clynes, Labour M.P., speaking at the special Trades Union Congress in London, at which a vote was given against direct action to force nationalisation, said: "If yon declare a general strike the Prime Minister will declare a general election under conditions which would l«aV« Labour rant in twain and oppoiud fey. «wy. Ptbef glass."
