THE SHORTAGE OF HOUSES.

STRONG ACTION SUGGESTED. [BY TELEGRAPH.— OWN CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Strong action was advocated at a meeting called by the Labour Representation Committee to consider the housing problem. The chairman said the meeting had been arranged with the object of bringing the housing scandal to a head. He hoped its result would not be mere resolutions. There had been too much talk already. The meeting should make certain decisions and press them determinedly. At this .stage the press representatives were asked to withdraw. t It is understood that the chief suggestion placed before the meeting was action in the direction of resisting eviction orders, which have been very frequent in Wellington owing to the severe shortage of houses forcing people to buy over the heads of tenants.
