FIRE ON A STEAMER.

A fire broke out at 7.30 last evening among bales of flax in the hold of the Northern Company's steamer Gael, berthed at the King's Wharf. The vessel arrived from the Piako River on Saturday morning, with her hold full and a part deck cargo of flax. At. 7.20 p.m. yesterday, when the company's watchman passed the vessel, no. signs of a fire could be seen, but shortly afterwards smoke was seem issuing from the hatch. The fire brigade was quickly on the scene, and soon had the fire 'under control.
