THE ORDER OF ST. JOHN.
DOMINION CONFERENCE. CENTRAL EXECUTIVE FORMED. [BY telegraph. — HIKS association.] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. A conference of centres of the St. John Ambulance Association and St. John Ambulance brigade districts was held to-day. I The Governor-General, patron and head of the Order in the Dominion, presided. The following delegates were presentDunedin centre : Colonel A. R. Falconer, | Colonel G. Barclay, Major W. Fleming, and Captain J. E. Rone; Canterbury: ! Lieutenant-Colonel F. B. Cresswell, Captain W. McKinney, Mr. C. J. Treleaven, and Miss Munro; Wellington: Messrs. W. H. Seed, J. D. Findlay, Mrs. Waters, and Miss Robinson. There were also present Sir R. Heaton Rhodes and Mr. W. B. Fisher. It was decided to form a Dominion executive, to bo constituted as follows ;— Chairman, director of the ambulanco department; vice-chairman, officer in charge of the brigade in New Zealand; members, chairman of the centre in each sub-district, officer in charge of the brigade in each district, and one other delegate to represent Red Cross workers frorr each district. It was decided that all matttrs concerning the association and brigade, except technical matters, should be dealt with by (ho central executive in each district under the direction of the Dominion executive. The following resolutions were carried: — That the Governor-General of New Zealand for the time being be patron and head of the Order in the Dominion, and exofficio a member of the Dominion executive ; that His Excellency be asked to appoint Sir R. Heaton Rhodes a director of 'bulance department in New Zealand ; thai when the time is opportune tho New Zealand executive meet the joint committee of the Red Cross Society and Order of St. John, and endeavour to form a basis for future work in New Zealand to prevent overlapping; that an organising committee, with Headquarters in Wellington, be set up by the Dominion executive to deal with the general work of the association, to be responsible to the Dominion executive; that the organising committee be empowered to deal with the question of applying for the Government subsidy, and that" tho Governor-General apply for permission to establish a priory in New Zealand.
