RAVELLERS BY TRAIN.
f TRAFFIC STILL HEAVY. 5 r BUSY DAY AT STATION. 5 ['holiday bush HEARING end c Little slackening of the railway traffic > I to and from Auckland is yet noticeable. • Yesterday's trains in both directions were 3 well loaded, the movement within the pro- . vincial district being especially noteworthy. 1 More than 4CO people left for Thames ■ and Waihi in the morning, and 350 for ' j Rotoraa. In the afternoon the inward ' trains brought 250 from the goldfiolds and ' 280 from the thermal districts. , The Main Trunk traffic also kept at a i high level.. The two inward expresses of ' I the early morning brought 250 and 500 I passengers respectively, and the afternoon ' i train another 300. Of tho outward SouthI ern expresses the mid-day despatch numI I bared 200 people, while the first evening, . I train carried 240, and the last 270. 'I The total inward and outward traffio [ ■ for the day, irrespective of local trains, I i accounted for more than 2800 people. I It is expected that the traffic of to-day I and to-morrow will exhaust tho main rush ! 1 of holiday-makers returning to Welling- . i ton and other Southern centres. After • to-morrow evening the third expresses from , both ends of the island will disappear from ' the time-table, and the traffic will then be [ carried on by the normal two daily ex- ! presses, those from Auckland being des- • patched at 1 p.m. and 7.10 p.m. Excursion , tickets now on issue will have currency II until February 18.
