THE HOCKEY DISPUTE.
CANTERBURY RESOLUTIONS.
WITHDRAWAL UNACCEPTABLE
AUCKLAND DEMANDS APOLOGY.
• The resolutions passed by the Canterbury Hockey Association in regard to the refereeing of Mr. L. C. Kent in the Auckland-Canterbury match were further considered at a, special meeting of the executive committee of the Auckland Hockey Association on Thursday evening. There were present :—Messrs. L. H. Norton (in the chair), L. C. Kent, H. B. Speight, L- Ellison, and R. E. Fawcett.
Correspondence was received from the New Zealand Hockey Association embracing resolutions passed by that body directing the Canterbury Association to withdraw the resolutions to which the Auckland Association took strong exception. The New Zealand Association also forwarded the resolution since passed by the Canterbury Association withdrawing the objectionable resolutions, and, in view of such withdrawal, directed the Auckland Association to withdraw that portion of its resolution refusing to play further matches against the Canterbury Association's teams.
It was resolved to inform the New Zealand Association that the Canterbury Association's withdrawal is not considered reasonable or satisfactory, and does not fulfil the requirements of the Auckland Association's resolution on the matter, which insisted on an unreserved withdrawal and apology in writing to Mr. Kent, and therefore the withdrawal is not acceptable to Auckland. Surprise was expressed that the New Zealand Association had accepted such a " quibbling and unsatisfactory withdrawal'' from the Canterbury Association and at it directing Auckland to withdraw before insisting that justice be done to the referee and the Auckland Association.
