BUSINESS DONE YESTERDAY. A good tone prevailed on the Stock' Exchange yesterday, prior to the members separating for the Christmas and -lew Year vacation. There was 6ome demand for banks. Commercials (pref.) were still wanted at £7. Nationals at £6 15s had buyers at £6 lis. New Zealands were looked for at £14 10s, and fully paids at £18 19s. There were sellere of Unions at £13 2s 6d. In insurances, New Zealands were reported to have sold at 32s 3d, more being asked for at 325, with sellers at 335. Nationals had.buyers at 735, and South British had sellers at £8 15s. \ In gas, business was reported in Aucklands at 26s 9d. In shipping, Devonport 07 er 1i ere reported to nave sold at, £(s 9d. In woollens, Kaiapois were in dem2'nd _ a t £9 6s, and preference issue at ~/ 17s 6d, and there were sellers at £9 10s and £8 2s 6d respectively. In miscellaneous lines, business was reported in yew Zealand Refrigerating at 445, and in Union Oils at 29s 6d - Wilsons Cement sold at 15. In mining, Talismans were easier, selling at 9s 5d and 9s 4d, with late sellers at 9s 8d and buyers at 9s. .17 Junctions sold at 13s, sellers closing ft, los 3d, and buyers at 12s lOd. Waihis had_ sellers at 48s 3d, buyers 47s CH at Id 683 -was reported in New Waitaias at od. At the close of the day's business the chairman, Mr. G. C.
