WHAT'S IN A MAN?
" What's a man?" asked David. A chemist has been answering the question. A man weighing about list would produce, if his body were converted into hydrogen and other gases, about 35,000 cubic feet of gas, worth about lis 2d for illuminating purposes.
He would also contain sufficient fat to make a 151b candle, enough carbon to make 9000 pencils, enough phosphorus— about 50 ounces—to make 800,000 matches. His body contains sugar equivalent to 60 lumps and 20 spoonfuls of salt.
The contents of 1000 eggs would provide. all the necessary ingredients for making his body anew.
