RIFLE-SHOOTING.
GRAMMAR SCHOOL'S RECORD,
A good record is held by Auckland Grammar School, as reported by Mr. J. W. Tibbs, the headmaster. At present the school holds the following shooting trophies :—The Prince of Wales Cup, the Natal Shield, the challenge cup of the secondary schools of New Zealand, the Islington Cup for the highest average of musketry scores among the cadets of the 'Dominion, and the McDermott Cup for competition in the Auckland district. The desire to retain these trophies in the school has inspired both boys and masters with a keener interest in shooting than ever, and the results of regular practice were to be seen in the rifle matches at the group meeting held last month at Penrose, which were open to all territorials and cadets in the Auckland military district. Of the 100 prizes for which they were eligible to compete, the Grammar School cadets won 63, including the three geld medals and two out of the three silver medals offered. In the vbattlepractice match, which most nearly approaches active service conditions, they .gained a remarkable success. The first place fell to the Specialist Company A team, the second to Specialist B. and the third to the team from A Company.
