IMPROVEMENTS TO ROADS. RAIN URGENTLY NEEDED. [BY TELegBAPH— OWN CORRKSrO.VDENT.] TE AROBA, Monday. The Piako County Council's new automatic dump truck has arrived in the district, and will be used to convey broken metal from the quarry at Waiorongomai to county roads, and particularly for the concreting of 44 miles of Stanl'o/ Road, between Te Aroha and Manawaru. The lack of rain in this district is seriously hampering the municipal electric lighting service. At present light is only ! available for a .few hours each evening. but repairs to the auxiliary plant are being pushed on to provide power for local industries. The Elstow branch of the Farmers' Union has approved proposals for the completion of the metalling of the Elstow district roads, at a cost of £7500. Answering a deputation of local business men, the Hon. W. H. Herries promised to again make .representations to have some of the worst sand bars in the Waihou River, between Paeroa and Te Aroha, removed. At present, and for some time past, the boats have been finding considerable difficulty in running to time-table, the trip, in some cases taking 20 hours.
