. ♦ WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION. DEVELOPMENT OPERATIONS. [BY TELEGRAPH. OWIf COBKESPOKDENT.] WAIHI. Monday. The picking up , of tho shaft on the Waihi Grand Junction Gold Company's west property is being proceeded with, and so far the shaft has been examined and repaired to a depth of 70ft. The management intends entering upon a vigorous policy of development in this part of the field after the, holiday vacation. The existence of ore bodies carrying payable values and of good average width has . been proved. These will be further ex-' plored as soon as possible, and crosscuts will be projected in search of any other reefs wh'ich may lie in the west and southern arenas, which have not been worked for a great many years. J i ! TALISMAN. The following information. has-been cabled to the London office of "the Talisman Consolidated Co.—No. 16 winze : Pro-gross 20ft: width of reef, 42in; values, £2 13s a ton. ' MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Golden Belt.—At No. 1 level, in the drive north from, the topW the rise, the reef is increasing in width. The tram will be started On Monday, and the quartz broken will be sent to the mill. Hauraki Mines.The retimbering of the Hauraki shaft above the water level has been completed for 40ft, leaving 20ft to be done to reach the water. Satisfactory progress is being made with the overhauling of the pumping and winding machinery and boilers, at the Hauraki and Union Bench shafts. Kuranui.—The rise is now up 28ft. The reef is 20in wide, and is carrying a little light mineral. The hansingwall country is now better. A start will be made at the Thames School of Mines on Tuesday to crush the sample sent there for that purpose.
