Ltd., Hamilton, report:— The continuance of the butchers' strike has had a depressing effect on the beef market {generally, a great amount of stock being detained locally, which under normal conditions wou'd, ere this, have reached the abattoirs. There has, however, been some activity shown by freezing .buyers, and up to their _ standards competition has been fairly brisk. It is safe to assume that immediately freezing operations are in full swing the market will be exceedingly lively. The eamfe remarks apply to mutton as to beef. As regards store cattle, there is very little change to report from the preceding week, although, at a number of oiir sales a. brighter tone was observed. It is not expected, however, that much improvement will bo experienced until more favourable weather conditions prevail. It may be said 1 hat the demand for dairy cattle is about 1 satisfied for this season, although a miniher of good cUarinp sales reported. The market for store sheep is fairly buoyant, especially forward wethers. th« advance in freezing values being no doubt accountable. Most of the sheep offering are shorn, and considerable business is being transacted. Good ewes and lambs receive attention, but poor sorts are neglected.
