POST OFFICE BONUS.
INVESTIGATION BY JUDGE. SIR ROBERT STOUT TO ACT. The controversy around the question whether Sir Joseph Ward did or did not promise, with the authority of a Minister of the Crown, that the bonus payable to the Officers of the Post and Telegraph Department was to be continued for a further six months, will, in accordance with the decision of the Government, be referred to a Judge of the Supreme Court' for decision. The Prime Minister stated last evening that the Chief Justice, _ Sir Robert Stout, who has had wide experience in past , years as a Minister of the Crown, has; consented to examine the Departmental files and to make a recommendation to the Government regarding the matter.
