The superintendent of the Presbyterian missions in the Gulf of Carpentaria declares that the Gulf country is essentially land for half-castes. Full-blooded natives are dying out, but the half-castes are virile I and are increasing. A development of their settlement there 'will help towards a solution of the question of population in the torrid zone of Australia, which is not fitted for rearing -white children. '
