LAND FOR SOLDIERS.

«o- ' BAY OF PLENTY ESTATE. REQUIREMENTS OF MAORIS. A report regarding the Government's in- ; tentions in respect, to the disposal of the Husking estate, between Matata and Te Puke, which is current in the Bay of Plenty, was mentioned by Mr. W. Pollock j at a meeting of the executive of the Auckland* Returned Soldiers' Association lastevening. Mr. Pollock said that returned soldiers : J from various parts of the Dominion had i gone to the Bay of Plenty to inspect this estate, which, it was understood, was for ' the settlement of returned soldiers as a , whole, but it, was now stated # that at the eleventh liour the Oovernmenthad decided to reserve the land exclusively for Maori soldiers. There was dissatisfaction in the ' district, Mr. Pollock said, regarding this i rejxirt. as it was considered the best class I of settlers should be placed upon the land. ! Attention had been drawn to the fact that, i the Maori land adjoining was not being > utilised to the best advantage, and it was considered the interests of the native soldiers would be fully conserved by allowing ; them to take their c.hanre at the ballot I with other returned soldiers. , On Mr. Pollock's motion it was decided to wi te to the Minister for Lands urging ' that the land should be open for applicaI tion by all returned soldiers.
