A VISITOR ON AUCKLAND.
—As a visitor to Auckland, I would like to mention a few failings which arc very noticeable to a stranger. For a city like Auckland to be content with the present coffin carts of trams shows lack of pubic interest and initiative. 1 would advise Auckland to send some official to Christchurch to see cars. The time taken to load and unload the Auckland cars at each end must mean a Jose of thousands of pounds yearly. I believe Noah's Ark had only one entrance. Certainly the Auckland cars go one better. Also timetables are conspicuous by their absence. The seating accommodation for waiting passengers is very deficient. The council could take into consideration the running of an observation car, such as the Wellington Council has for showing the spots of interest in and around the city. Now the other side of the picture. lam delighted with the clean appearance of the city. It is very pleasing after leaving Wellington. The sanitary conveniences in tlje public thoroughfares deserve commendation. With the beautiful surroundings of the harbour, I am enchanted, and the memories of my visit to Auckland will ever give me "pleasure. Trusting my criticism will be received in the spirit in which it i 3 given. A. G. Goring.
