DELAYS TO SHIPPING.
Sir,—We her.r a great deal from the workers about the cost of living going up, but, from my observations, I think they are not altogether blameless for some of the conditions prevailing. I refer to the actions of the watersiders holding up steamers like the Niagara and Fiona, both carrying foodstuffs. The latest hold-up appears to me to be a most arbitrary affair. Do they know the treat expense entailed every day one of those large vessels is idle? The owners must put the loss on to someone; they cannot be expected to pay lor the actions of the waterside workers, over whom they have no control. I can see the price of sugar go%ig up Is 2d per pound or more. Then who will cry the loudest? 35 Years a Waterfront Worker.
