.' ITE KUITI" RACING CLUB. ,' 1 •• ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of the To- Kuiti Eac- I ing Club was held last week. Mr. Howartb' fl the president, presiding over a large attend'"-" • ance of members. The annual report stated that the com- ® mittee had continued to pay all necessary :'V' attention to improvements on the club's "- - I property. An area of over 20 acres had :i 1 been ploughed during the year, anu minor "—i improvements had been made to building's '&©"! Owing to the war. the committee had not ;j ® felt justified in undertaking any heavy <>„. penditure on improvements, but the whoi® ''9 | question would be thoroughly cone into b- : the new committee. The matter of installing automatic scales in the weigh room would require consider?tion. The amount which the club had paid this year to thn Commissioner of Taxes and Stamps wa-i £952. and. in addition. £'1]75 was paid in stakes. The total is a tor receipts atnoun'erl to £19,329, an increase of £71G over last year. This would, of course, necessitate the stakes being further increased next year Owing to ceaseless agitation on the. part of the racing clubs, it would appear from staterfienis which had been recently made by the , Minister . for Internal Affairs and others in authority that there was some slight possibility of the days of racing beitir» increased or otherwise readjusted. The committee had. in accordance was its practice ever since the club receiver! its totalisator permit, placed before the Racing Con- ' ference this year strong representations tor the. granting of a permit for another day's racing, and if any increase or readjustments should take place, the members could rest assured that no efforts would be spared to keep the claims of the club prominent!" before the authorities. For the first time since the institution of the club, it had received direct representation on the Auckland District Committee. Mr. Henry Rothery having been elected as one of the members on the committee for the Auckland country clubs. k The report was adopted. , The following officers were elected:—President. Mr. Howarth: vice-presidents. Messrs L. Jacob. N. C. Matthew. J. P. Tercoe. 13 Brewer, and J. Hetet; committee. Messrs G. H. Boles. Cochrane. Rotherv, Yause. ami H. Wilson. The president said the club had been fighting continuously for an extra day's racing. but without success. It was necessary to keep the claims of Te Kuit-i consistently before the conference. There was not a vestige of a doubt that Te Kuiti was ' entitled to another day if the ba-sis of choice were reasonable. Some of the South Island meetings were of trifling importance, and the amounts put through were less than that invested in Te Kuiti in a Eingle race Still. Te Kuiti did not wish to rob any other club. There could be no agitation during the war. but the committee felt that the time was now ripe for a move, AUSTRALIAN RACING. ADELAIDE GRAND NATIONAL.
