MELBOTJBNB, Aug. 8It is understood that representatives of the. Seamen's Union and the Disputes Committee have presented to the Government definite proposals for a settlement of the strike.. The details are closely guarded. It is believed that the > committee has asked for permission to interview the imprisoned secretary Thomas Walsh, which wag refused. The committee is now con sidering a new move, but the outlook is not hopeful. The Trades Hall Council has agreed to circularise the uniona for financial help. ' FOOD SUPPLIES SOUGHT. MANNING FISHING FLEET. A. and N.Z. SYDNEY, Aug. 8. The Seamen's Union has decided to organise a fleet of fishing Vessels to work on a co-operative basis for the bene it of the union. Two vessels have already been purchased. The union has also resolved to send men info the country rabbittrapping, in order to augment food stocks A summons has been issued against Mr. Le Cornu, of Melbourne, president of the Seamen's Federation, for a breach of the Arbitration Act.
