ATTACK ON GERMAN ENVOYS.
DISMISSED OFFICIAL. REINSTATEMENT ORDERED. (Received 5.3 p.m.) Router. PARIS, Aug. 7. M. Chaieil, ex-prefect of the department of Ssine-et-Oise, who was dismissed in June owing to the attack made by the crowd upon* the departing German delegates at Versailles, has been reinstated, in view of the finding of a commission to the effect that the incident was due to the Germans. When certain of the German peace delegates were leaving their hotel at Versailles on June 17, prior to their return to Germany, the crowd stoned their automobiles. Kerr Melch ; .or and another envoy were slightly injured. M. Clemenceau sent a personal letter of apology to the chief of the German delegation for what he described as a breach of the laws of hospitality. M. Chalett and another official were- - dismissed in connection with the incident. At this time the newspapers attributed the greater part the'blanie"to minor German officials, who toade' B lbn>e insulting remarks in answer to a' little hissing by spectators.
