THE RUGBY GAME.

RIFLES TIE WITH GRAMMAR.. The Rngby Union's senior competition Vis continued on Saturday. Chief interest was centred in the College Rifles-Grammar Old Boys' match, played at Edon Park, which resulted in a draw, each team scoring 14. Marist Old Boys defeated Ponsonby by 11 points to 5, Grafton gained an easy win of 24 points to 3 against Newton, and University beat Parnell, after a rough-and-tumble came, by 33 points to 0.

GRAFTON OUTPOINTED BY CITY. Two senior grade Northern Union matches were played on Saturday. Newton meeting North Shore at Victoria Park, and City and firaiton trying conclusions at tha Domain. In tho former contest Newton won by 11 point* to 9 after a' fairly close game. Owing to a misunderstanding regarding the draw, some of the Newton players failed to take the field, and soma difficulty was experienced in obtaining substitutes. A full team was eventually got ioßctlior, though Newton started tho same with two or threo men short. In the City-Orafton contest the former team bad littl« difficulty in registering a victory. The City players were attacking most of tbo time, and eventually won by 25 points to 2.

NEWTON V. NORTH SHORE. .The game requires little description, neither side showing good combination, though there wero flashes of good individual play. Tho first scoro was registered by North Snore. McAneny kicking a fino goal from a mark obtained in Newton territory shortly after the kick off.
