" ATTITUDE OF TRIBES GOOD. .-.1 • v •• ; (BcwiTed-1.20 a.m.) Renter. PESHAWAR, May 91. Khyber Pass having ceasod to bo for the present a danger point, a ■ 'situation has developed at Kurram, 78 miles south-east of Kabul. With tho exception of a few outlaws, the Turis and Waziris are firm in their resolve to permit no Afghans in their territory. Plans have already been made to sccure Kurram against; the Afghan throat. Nothing has j happened beyond sniping at pickets. I At Parachinar the stormy petrel, the Mullah, Mir Sahib Jan Badshuh, I whom the troops call Jimmy Bradshaw, appealed to Bajaur but was forced to leave. In 1915 ho induced a combined forco of Mohmahds and Swalis to try to overthrow the Gov-. eminent with disastrous results. He recently visited the Mohmands, but the latter wero busy dividing tho loot obtained at Bakka, and dismissed him. Frontier experts agree that except for a few outlaws the tribesmen will not welcome tho passage of ill-disci- j plined Afghan troops through their ■ territory. Only after many years 1 experience have they acquiesced in the presence of British troops. The tribal country does not trust tho | . Afghans, as tho latter have no sup-1 plies, and are forced to exist oil the country, they arc passing through. The Amir's stay in Kabul is exciting comment, : the army demanding his presence at Jelallabad. i An official : report states: No fur-j ther operations have been reported ' from Dokka. Yar Muhnmmads band at Chora is bolicved'to have . been : dispersed, and sniping has , practically ceased in the Khyber , area. The situation in Kurram is . obscure. The Afghans picketing the , : Paiwar bridge are adopting an ag-| . gressive attitude, firing on our j / pickets at night. Conditions are un- ' • •settled in Khost, where General . Nadir Khan if! commanding. Ho was ' expected to arrive at Matun'yester- ' day ? with detachments of regulars ; and tribal lascars. Reports from 1 other parts; arc satisfactory. The!- - attitude of the tribes is good. !
