SAILING NOTES.

The Ponsonby Cruising Club was favoured with ideal weather conditions for its final function last Saturday afternoon. The wind was very light at the start of the yacht race, but gained in strength as, the race proceeded, and all boats finished in good time. Ten yachts took part in the race. The Sadie, on the five-minute mart, beat the rest of the fleet to the finishing-line by a good margin, and gained first p™. On corrected tinus the Omatere and Speedwell filled the position of second and third. Only one of the launches failed to face the starter for the Kohn Cup, me scratch boat. Cygnet, getting the best of » somewhat straggling start. Travelling at over 18 knots, she soon gained on the others, and had finished her race before they had reached Northcote. Some 14 minutes after, the Surf crossed the finishing-line, followed at intervals by the Tama, Maroro, Countess, and then Daisy. On corrected times the Cup becomes the property of the limit launch, Daisy, by a small margin from the Maroro, with the scratch boat. Cygnet, filling third position The North Shore Yacht Clnb held its resail I of the Hit open class, which was spoilt by a capsize some weeks ago. Tho scratch boat Betty, sailing well in the light wind,, could not gain enough except to cross the finishingline ahead of (lie rest of the . competitors. The result on corrected times gives the race to the Bantam, with Sasanoff second and Arawa third. The last harbour event of the New Zealand Power Boat Association will be held this afternoon over its usual harbour fourknot course. Good entries have been received for the two events set down on tho programme. The Kean Cup will bo the first race, which will start at 245 p.m. The owner or club member must be at the wheel and the handicaps will be given at the start, so as to make as exciting a finish as possible. In the Burt Cup the launches will be rehandicapped, and the limit boat will be despatched as near 3.30 p.m. as can be arranged. This race is for the ladies to show their skill in steering, and should prove the most popular event of the club's racing programme.

As in the Kean Cup, the handicaps ar« given at the start of the race, the boat's number being displayed from the flagship for one minute. A large number of both yachts and launches record good hauls of fish last SunHay. One launch out by Tiri landed ever MO in a very short time. The most popular srounds appear to be along the Wade shore, whero a number of well-known launches appeared to bo very busy during the morning. With the season over, owners do not appear to wish to wait for the peace celebrations, and are anxious to place their boats in winter quarters.
