TRAMWAY CONDUCTORS.

Sir,—Like "Tikinui," I have often felt that I would like to write a line in defence of the tram conductors. I, like the first correspondent, hav. been in Wellington, but not for a few weeks. I lived there for two years. I travelled much in ' their trams during that time, and I find that our conductors compare favourably ■ , with conductors in any othor city in New Zealand. I have often wondered, on the Dominion Road line, where the conductors got their store of courtesy from, not that the travelling public are any worso on this ' line than on any other ; but the cars are 180 over-crowded as to try the temper of 1 any reasonable person. I have scores of {times heard the conductors direct passen--11 gers where to get out and where to find ' 1 their streets. In fifteen years I have net ionce received other than gentlemanly treatment from tie conductors and motormen alike, Fahiflat. Sir,— have traveled much in the ' Auckland trams, and I have never heard conductors say anything discourteous, but I have heard male passengers make 1 1 insolent remarka to them, especially those ' ! who imagine themselves gentlemen. _ I have got not alone courtesy, but kindness from them when I have been laden with parcels. The office of conductor is a very trying one to any man of spirit. M. CIJEMENIS. Papakura, April 24, 1919. Sir,—l qnite endorse the sentiment* expressed by " Tikinui" in her letter re tramway men. Having had occasion to travel in the cars a good deal lately, I can say that I have no fault to find with the men, as I have always received courtesy and attention from them. Balmoral Boad. J. A. Garbett.
