PROHIBITIONIST ZEAL.
COMPLAINTS IN AMERICA. > LONDON, April i. The Times correspondent at New York reports that prohibitionist zeal is menacing the liberties of railway travellers. Numerous complaints have been made of the searches which are carried out when persons are passing from " wet" to " dry" territory. *'; Ladies have been awakened in their sleeping berths by prohibition iigents brandishing revolvers and demanding to be allowed to search the beds for forbidden drinks. The mayor of Wilmington, North Carolina, has written a further letter to the Director of Railways, declaring that " prohibition thugs" sole a lady's lingerie while allegedly hunting for liquor. The prohibitionists deny the allegations that four State prohibition agents who arrived at Woodstock, Virginia, had been charged with shooting two men for refusing to permit the search of a motor-car. The crowd attempted to lynch the agents, and were with difficulty prevented from doing so.
