DISTURBANCES IN INDIA.
RIOTING IN THE PUNJAB. POLICE FIRE ON THE CROWD. SOLDIERS PATROL DELHI. (Received 950 p.m.) A. and N.Z.-Reutor. LONDON, April 24. The latest reports from the Punjab state that two British officers I were injured, a soldier killed, and 1 the Treasury attackod at Kasu. At i Amritsar on April 13 the mob defied a proclamation forbidding meetings. Firing ensued, causing 200 casualties. The disorderly elements in the rural areas are damaging Government property and looting trains. At Delhi, when the shops were reopening, a Mahoramedan mob interfered. The police were obliged to fire, scattering the mob. Four of the police were injured. The city was afterwards quiet, being patrolled by troops. On the north-west frontier on April 13 attempts were made to close the shops in the Peshawar. A mass meeting was held, Hindoos participating, at which a boycott of British goods was urged. No disturbances occurred. Calcutta is norms,!. The Moderates have issued a manifesto condemning passive resistance, and deploring the recent events. Bombay is quiet, but there is suppressed excitement among the Mahommedans.
