ANZAC DAY HOLIDAY.

1 There will be general agreement in i the community that Anzac Day ; should be regarded by public obserj vance as a solemn commemoration ! of the sacrifices and the achieve- : ments of the New Zealand Expeditionary Forces. By common con-1 sent, the great body of returned sol-! diers look upon the anniversary of I i the Landing as an occasion of sacred ' i significance to be devoted to the j memory of their comrades who fell I not only on Gallipoli but also in I I every other field of the campaign. In i • ordinary circumstances there would I j be no need to appeal for public asi sistanco in the memorial services. ! This year, however, the arrange-1 ' ments for a general suspension of! ' business and industry have been emi barrassed by the lateness of Easter, j and the public observance of Anzac I Day is not likely to bo universal. j The matter should, however, be remedied in future, and Anzac Day definitely added to the list of nnniver- \ saries to be celebrated by a public i holiday. The inspiration of Anzac Day is surely worth preserving by the sincere and heartfelt remembrance of every New Zealander. j *
