MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE.
REMITS FROM DEVONPORT. Remits far consideration at the forthcoming conference of municipal authorities ' were proved by the Devon port Borough Council last night, as follows :—That the necessary amending legislation bo sought to vest the control and maintenance of all main arterial roads in the Government; to authorise the preparation of two rolls— a ratepayers and freeholders' roll and a residential electors' omitting unnecesBury details; to provide for the election of councillors for three years, one-third of ' the council to retire annually; to provide ' for the amending of the Act to compel gas companies to pay rates on gas mains and ! machinery; that a strong resolution asking the Government to amend the Municipal Corporations Act, 1908, with a view to compelling insurance companies to contribute to the support of all fire brigades under the control of local bodies, be passed.
