IN GERMAN OCCUPATION.
FRENCH GIRL'S EXPERIENCES. A girl to whom the war brought thrilling experiences is the French bride of a : New Zealand soldier, who arrived by the I ' lonic yesterday. At the outbreak of tho 1 war the French headquarters staff was stationed in her village, near Fleurbaix, but very soon came the Germans, 500 of whom were billeted there after tho i French had been driven out. One was I quartered with her family, and by all J accounts behaved himself well. Within j 10 days the tide had turned; the German . advance was stemmed, and the English I returned and drove them from Fleurbaix and surrounding villages. Although the ! place was in ruins, many of the brave j inhabitants still lived on there, taking the c-iances of war as they came. In j November, 1916. the New Zealand Division j relieved the Australians, and were bil- I I leted in Fleurbaix, and thus it was that I mademoiselle met her future husband, i who was living in her home. Fleurbaix ! was recaptured by the Germans in 1918 in their great advance, and again driven I from it when the Allies commenced the j great counter-thrust that ended in victory.
