The Press Bureau reports that Amritsar, in the Punjaub, and Lahore are quiet. Twelve important arrests were made. Open rebellion exists between these two places and the military is taking action. Bombay and Ahmedabad are quiet. A serious disturbance occurred at Veiramgam, where several buildings were destroyed by the rioters. .The losses at Ahmedabad were heavy. Business has been suspended at Calcutta till April 22. The mob became violent and the military were called out. The mob stoned a picket who fired on the crowd, killing six and wounding twelve. Mohammedan Marwaris fraternised with Hindus, who were admitted to the mosque. A. and N.Z. 'LONDON, April 18. Mr. E. S. Montague, Secretary for India, announced in the House of Commons, that further riots had occurred in India. The city telegraph offices at Lahore, Allahabad, and Amritsar had been destroyed by fire. There had been some loss of life, those killed including Europeans. RAILWAY STATION BURNED.

Tho Government reports from India state that the shops are reopening at Lahore and Amritsar. Several agitators have been arrested and some deported. The railway station at Gujranwala, 42 miles northward of Lahore, was burned, the staff injured and the line damaged. Martial law has been extended. During the riots 50 Sepoys faced a mob of 5000 and dispersed it by firing.

The situation in Delhi, Bombay City and Calcutta is quiet.

In the Ahmedabad district Ghanda appealed to crowded meetings on April 14 to forswear violence. Two outlying police posts have been burned and the Treasury at Viramgam, about forty miles west of Ahmedabad, looted. Strikes are threatened on two railways and communications in the Punjaub are seriously threatened.
