FIRE IN A SCHOOL.
TE AUTE OUTBREAK.
CENTRAL BUILDING BUENED.
ARREST OF A BOY.
[BT TEI-ECn-VPn.— association.] I NAPIER, Tuesday. Te Auto College, which last year had a large part of its buildings destroyed by fire" had the old central building, comprising the main schoolroom and another Class-room, totally destroyed by the same agency early this morning. The fire was discovered at 4.30 a.m. by a workman and one of the bays, who saw the smoke issuing from tho building. Nothing could, however, be done to extinguish the fire, as there is no supply of water for fire purposes at tho school. The new building in course of construction was scorched,' and Homo loose timber was also burned. No one was injured, tho dormitories not being affected. The building was insured for £1200 in the National Office. This amount, of course, is quito inadequate a sura to rebuild the structure. It has been suggested that it would be a suitable memorial for Maori soldiers killed in tho war if a sum were set wsido for tho construction of a suitable edifice for tho education of tho young Maoris in the future. Later advices to-day state that George Waera, aged 17 years, was arrested on a charge of wilfully sotting fire to the college. He appeared before tho Waipaw.i, Police Court, and was remanded for eight days.
