THE SHEEP DIP FRAUDS
LIGHTER SENTENCE SOUGHT APPLICATION BY HARRISON JUDGE DECLINES TO ACT. A request that the sentence passed or him should be reconsidered wag made al tho Supremo Court yesterday by J6hn C. Harrison, who was recently sentenced to six years' imprisonment for a series oi sheep-dip frauds. Harrison said that he owed a lot oi money, and if given a chance could pay all the people to whom the money was owing. He remarked that it was a very heavy sentence. Mr. Justice Hosking: It will come to less than six years if you are of good behaviour. In any case you will come under the Prisons Board, for there is a provision that enables it to review sentences of moro than three years. Harrison: They will go on the police report of mc, Your Honor. Tho Judge said lie was euro the police would act justly, but ho could not discuss the matter further. The prisoner was then removed. PROOE2DIfIGS IN BANKRUPTCY. WITHDRAWAL BY CREDITORS. Tho application to have John C. Harrison, who was recently sentenced to six years' imprisonment in connection with the Anconia sheep-dip frauds, adjudicated a bankrupt, was set down for hearing before Mr. Justice Hosking at the Suprepo Court yesterday, but when the case was called Mr. Stanton, on behalf Of the New Zealand Express Company, the petitioning creditor, asked leavo to withdraw the petition, stating that an investigation had shown that no advantage was to be gained by proceeding with the application. He made this request with the concurrence of all the other creditors. . Mr. Singer, representing Harrison, offered no objection, and leave to withdraw was granted.
