EMPLOYERS' FEDERATION. PREFERENCE TO SOLDIERS. [BT telegraph.—press ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Monday. At the conference of tie Federation of Master Painters of New Zealand a resolution was carried to the effect that the incoming executive be instructed to make an effort to arrange for uniform discounts throughout New Zealand, discount to ha 25 per cent, to members of the association and 15 per cent to the trade, and that no other discounts be allowed. It was resolved" That this federation ask the New Zealand Institute of Architects, the Town-planning Commission, and the Builders and Contractors' Federation of New Zealand to join us in approaching the Health Department with a view to naving the future use of scrim in the Dominion made illegal; that it ho a recommendation to the incoming executive to deal with the question of the pro* posed prohibition of the use of white lead, and that a letter bo written by the executive to the Minister for Public Health asking to be notified if any action by Parliament is proposed; that this federation take every means to oppose tho Painters' Health Protection Bill as being unnecessary and against the interests of the painting trade.'' The conference pledged its members to reinstate all returned men in their former positions, and to give preference of employment to returned soldiers whenever possible. .
