ST. PATRICK'S DAY.
THE HOLIDAY PROGRAMME. SPO&TS THIS AFTERNOON. The sports programme and general arrangements for the observance of StPatrick's Day are this year on a far larger scale than in the last few years, and, given fine weather, the two day»~to-flay and Monday—should give considerable pleasure. Tho dhildren from the various city and suburban Catholic parishes will assemble iii St. Patrick's Cathedral Square at it) a.m. to-day, and, accompanied by two bands, will march at half-past ten by way of Wyndham, Albert, Quay, and Queen Streets, Karangahape Road, and Grafton Bridge to the Domain, where a large sports meeting will be held. The sports will conclude with a massed display by 8000 children, who will form a gigantic living Celtic cross, in which will be shown the word "Erin." On Monday bowling tournaments will be held on various greens, special attractions being the veteran bowlers match at Auckland, and the Public Services tournament at West End. A good display of cricket should be given in the match Grammar Old Boys v. Grammar First XL, which will be played at the Domain. The annual regatta, will be held at Ngaruawahia, and as Auckland crews ana crews from Hamilton and other towns ore competing, a. good programme of rowing events ehould delight.followers of the aquatic sport, The Auckland Croquet Association's patriotic tournament will be advanced a further stage on the Remuera and Carlton lawns. On Monday evening an Irish national concert will do given in the Town Hall. The programme will consist of Irish song, music, and poetry, and is said to "embrace all the gems of Irish minstrelsy." Although to-day is not a general public holiday, several establishments are cleaning. Monday will be a bank holiday, and moat oi the Government offices will be closed- It will be observed also as a legal arid insurance holiday, anal the Auckland University Oollego will be closed.
